Lighting

Proper lighting is essential to the health and appearance of any aquarium. The desired light intensity and spectrum depends on what types of creatures you keep. A fish-only aquarium, for example, does not need intense light and too much light can cause unsightly algae growth. Live plants, on the other hand, need stronger light with the correct spectrum for photosynthesis. Most aquatic life depends on a regular day/night cycle as well, so aquarium lights should be used with a timer if one is not built-in to the light fixture. Aqueon offers a wide range of fixtures and replacement lamps to provide options for general illumination, color enhancement and plant growth.
